Separation of advertising and editorial
Editorial decisions are made independently of commercial relationships. Specifically:
- Advertisers and affiliate partners have no input into editorial content, ratings, rankings or recommendations.
- No partner sees content before publication and none has a right of approval.
- We do not publish sponsored articles, advertorials, or content written or supplied by a commercial partner.
- Any paid placement will be clearly and prominently labelled as advertising and visually distinguished from editorial content.
- Position in a ranking can be purchased.Where it has been, the entry is pinned to the top of that list and labelled “Sponsored placement”, the ranking says so above the list, and the entry still shows its unchanged score and its drawbacks.
- Payment cannot secure coverage, inclusion in a comparison, a particular score, a verdict, or the removal of criticism. Those are the things that make a ranking worth reading, and they are not for sale at any price.
What each label means
Four labels appear on reviews and rankings. Two of them describe money and two describe judgement, and the difference matters:
- Paid partner — we earn a commission if you buy through our link. This is a statement about our finances, not about the product. It appears on good services and poor ones alike.
- Sponsored placement — the partner paid for position at the top of a specific ranking. This is the only label on this site that can be bought. The score, the verdict and the drawbacks shown alongside it are unchanged, and the ranking says above the list that a paid position is present.
- Recommended — our editorial judgement that the product is worth considering, always with a stated who for. It is not for sale, and it is deliberately scoped rather than absolute: a service can be recommended for one kind of reader and a poor choice for another, and the label says which. It is also independent of the score. A moderate score with a narrow recommendation means exactly what it looks like — worth trying if you are the person described, and not otherwise.
- Not a paid partner — we earn nothing if you use it. Several of our highest-scoring recommendations carry this label.
Where a product carries both “Recommended” and “Paid partner”, read the scope line and the cons before acting on it. We would rather you did that than trust the badge.
Standards advertisers must meet
Because this is a health site, we apply stricter standards than a general publisher would. We will not accept advertising from any party that:
- Supplies prescription medication without a valid prescription.
- Prescribes without a licensed clinician evaluating the patient.
- Claims to cure erectile dysfunction, or makes disease claims unsupported by competent and reliable scientific evidence.
- Sells products appearing on the FDA’s tainted sexual enhancement products list.
- Markets dietary supplements as equivalent to, or replacements for, prescription medication.
- Dispenses from a pharmacy not licensed in the patient’s state.
- Uses before-and-after imagery, or testimonials presented as evidence of effectiveness.
- Uses shame-based marketing around masculinity, age or sexual performance.
- Operates subscription or cancellation practices designed to obstruct cancellation.
- Targets minors, or fails to restrict adult health content appropriately.
These standards reflect FTC guidance on health product claims and endorsements. We reserve the right to decline any advertiser for any reason, and to terminate a relationship immediately if standards stop being met.
Data and ad targeting
We treat visits to this site as sensitive. We do not sell reader data, and we do not knowingly enable advertising that targets individuals based on inferred health conditions.
Where analytics or advertising technology is used, it is described in our cookie policy and governed by our privacy policy. You can control non-essential cookies at your privacy choices.
Affiliate relationships
Affiliate commissions are our principal source of revenue and are disclosed in detail at how we make money and in our formal affiliate disclosure. Affiliate relationships are subject to the same standards set out on this page.
Advertising enquiries
Write to partners@edtreatmentguides.com. Please read this policy and our review methodology before getting in touch. Labelled placement at the top of a ranking is available; a rating, a verdict, inclusion in a comparison or the removal of criticism is not, and enquiries asking to buy those are declined as a matter of course.
