What we use
| Name | Category | Purpose | Duration | Set by |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| edtg-consent-v1 | Strictly necessary | Remembers your cookie choice so we do not ask again on every page. | Until you clear it | First party (browser storage) |
| Analytics identifier | Analytics | Measures which pages are read and how people move through the site, so we know what to improve. | Typically up to 13 months | Third party — analytics provider |
| Affiliate attribution | Affiliate | Records that you reached a partner through our link, so we are credited if you sign up. This is how the site is funded. | Typically 30–90 days, set by the partner | Third party — affiliate network or partner |
The categories explained
- Strictly necessary — required for the site to work and to remember your privacy choice. These cannot be switched off, and they do not track you across other websites.
- Analytics — help us understand which guides people actually read. Aggregate and non-essential. Off until you consent.
- Affiliate — allow a partner to attribute a referral to us. Off until you consent. If you reject them, you can still use every partner link; we simply may not be paid for it.
- Advertising and retargeting — we do not use these. Given the subject matter of this site, we consider health-inference-based ad targeting inappropriate.
Controlling cookies in your browser
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies in its settings, and most offer a private browsing mode that discards them when you close the window — which may be worth knowing if you are reading this site on a shared device.
We also honour Global Privacy Control. If your browser or extension sends a GPC signal, we treat it as an opt-out of any sale or sharing of personal information. See your privacy choices.
