How to actually get the low end
- Get the prescription written for the generic — sildenafil, not Viagra.
- Look up a free discount programme price for your exact strength and quantity.
- Ring three pharmacies with the drug name, strength and count. Warehouse and supermarket pharmacies frequently win.
- Ask the pharmacist to compare the discount-card price against your insurance copay, and charge you the lower.
- Ask about a 90-day supply, which usually lowers the per-tablet cost.
The safety layer nobody counts
A pharmacist standing in front of you can see every medication you have been dispensed and check it against what you are collecting. For PDE5 inhibitors that is not a nicety: nitrates are an absolute contraindication, alpha-blockers need dose separation, and strong CYP3A4 inhibitors need dose reduction.
An online questionnaire asks you to self-report those, and people forget the nitrate spray in a drawer. Run our safety check whichever route you choose — but the in-person conversation catches things a form does not.
